Aptitude Course Syllabus — 50 Lessons

Basic — Numbers
- Number System — Numbers are classified into Natural Numbers (1,2,3...), Whole Numbers (0,1,2...), Integers (...-2,-1,0,1,2...), Rational Numbers (p/q form), Irrational Numbers (√2, π), and Real Numbers.
- Percentages — Percentage means "per hundred". x% = x/100.
- Fractions & Decimals — A fraction p/q has numerator p and denominator q.
- Ratio & Proportion — Ratio a:b = a/b. Ratios should always be in their simplest form.
- Averages — Average = Sum of observations / Number of observations.
- Age Problems — Age problems require setting up linear equations with variables for present age.
- LCM & HCF — Problem Solving — HCF (Highest Common Factor) = largest number that divides all given numbers exactly.
- Number Properties — Perfect Squares: Numbers whose square root is an integer.
- Percentage Change & Reverse Percentage — Percentage Increase: New = Old × (1 + r/100).
- Mathematical Operations — BODMAS — BODMAS order: Brackets → Orders (powers/roots) → Division → Multiplication → Addition → Subtraction.
Basic — Finance
- Simple Interest — Simple Interest (SI) = (Principal × Rate × Time) / 100.
- Compound Interest — Compound Interest: Interest calculated on the initial principal AND the accumulated interest.
- Profit & Loss — Cost Price (CP) = price at which item is bought.
- Partnership — In a business partnership, profit is shared in proportion to capital × time.
- Profit & Loss — Marked Price & Discounts — Marked Price (MP) / List Price: The price tagged on the item.
- Compound Interest — Quarterly & Half-Yearly — When interest is compounded n times per year at annual rate R%: A = P(1 + R/(100n))^(nT).
Intermediate — Work Problems
- Time & Work — If A can do a work in n days, A's 1-day work = 1/n.
- Speed, Distance & Time — Speed = Distance / Time. Distance = Speed × Time.
- Trains & Boats — Boats and Streams: Downstream speed = Boat speed + Stream speed (u+v).
- Pipes & Cisterns — Filling pipe fills a tank in x hours → fills 1/x per hour (positive).
- Work & Wages — Wages are distributed in proportion to the work done (efficiency × time), not just time spent.
- Races & Games — In a race of X metres, A beats B by n metres means when A finishes X metres, B has only covered X-n metres.
Intermediate — Counting
- Permutation & Combination — Permutation: Arrangement of items where ORDER MATTERS.
- Probability — Probability of event E: P(E) = Number of favourable outcomes / Total number of outcomes.
Intermediate — Algebra
- Algebraic Expressions — Algebraic expression: combination of variables, constants, and operations.
- Sets & Venn Diagrams — Set: Collection of well-defined distinct objects.
- Arithmetic & Geometric Progressions — Arithmetic Progression (AP): a, a+d, a+2d, a+3d...
- Quadratic Equations — Quadratic equation: ax²+bx+c=0. Roots: x = [-b ± √(b²-4ac)] / 2a.
Advanced — Data
- Data Interpretation — Tables — Data Interpretation (DI) questions test your ability to read, analyze, and draw conclusions from data presented in tables, graphs, or charts.
- Data Sufficiency — Data Sufficiency (DS) tests whether given statements provide ENOUGH information to answer a question — you do NOT need to solve it.
Advanced — Reasoning
- Logical Reasoning — Syllogisms — Syllogism: Drawing conclusions from given statements.
- Number Series & Patterns — Arithmetic Series (AP): Common difference is constant.
- Coding & Decoding — Coding-Decoding tests your ability to find the pattern used to encode words or numbers.
- Clocks & Calendars — Clock Problems: Minute hand moves 360° in 60 minutes = 6°/min.
- Blood Relations — Blood relations problems test your understanding of family relationships.
- Directions & Distance — The four main directions: North (N), South (S), East (E), West (W).
- Seating Arrangements — Linear arrangement: People seated in a row.
- Input-Output Problems — Input-Output (machine) questions give an initial input and show how a machine processes it step by step.
- Statement & Assumptions — An assumption is something that is taken for granted or implied in a statement without being stated explicitly.
- Number Puzzles & Magic Squares — Number puzzles test logical thinking, pattern recognition, and arithmetic skills.
- Statement & Conclusions — A conclusion is a logical deduction drawn from a given statement — it must follow DIRECTLY and DEFINITELY from the statement.
Advanced — Math
- Mixtures & Alligation — Alligation Rule: Used to find the ratio in which two ingredients must be mixed to get a mixture at a desired price or concentration.
- Surds & Indices — Indices (Exponents): aᵐ × aⁿ = aᵐ⁺ⁿ. aᵐ / aⁿ = aᵐ⁻ⁿ.
- Logarithms — Logarithm: If aˣ = N, then logₐN = x. Read as "log base a of N equals x".
Intermediate — Geometry
- Mensuration — 2D Shapes — Rectangle: Area = l×b, Perimeter = 2(l+b), Diagonal = √(l²+b²).
- Mensuration — 3D Shapes — Cube: Volume = a³, Surface Area = 6a², Diagonal = a√3.
- Trigonometry Basics — For a right triangle: sin θ = Opposite/Hypotenuse, cos θ = Adjacent/Hypotenuse, tan θ = Opposite/Adjacent.
Advanced — Algebra
- Inequalities — Linear inequality: ax + b > c → x > (c-b)/a (if a>0).
Advanced — Verbal
- Analogies — Analogy tests find the relationship between two words and apply it to another pair.
- Critical Reasoning — Critical reasoning tests evaluate arguments: statements of conclusion supported by premise(s).
Who this Aptitude course is for
