Apt Ratio Proportion in Aptitude
Ratio a:b = a/b. Ratios should always be in their simplest form. 12:18 = 2:3.
Proportion: If a:b = c:d, then a×d = b×c (cross multiplication). This is called "Extremes = Means".
If A:B = 2:3 and B:C = 3:4, then A:B:C = 2:3:4.
Dividing a quantity in ratio a:b: first part = [a/(a+b)] × total, second part = [b/(a+b)] × total.
Direct Proportion: y ∝ x → y = kx. As x increases, y increases. Inverse Proportion: y ∝ 1/x → as x increases, y decreases.
