Filling pipe fills a tank in x hours → fills 1/x per hour (positive). Emptying pipe empties in y hours → empties 1/y per hour (negative).
Net filling rate = sum of all rates (positive for fill, negative for empty).
If pipe A fills in a hours and pipe B empties in b hours, net = 1/a - 1/b. Tank fills in ab/(b-a) hours.
Leak problem: If a pipe fills in n hours and there's a leak, the effective time increases. Leak rate = (1/actual time) - (1/pipe time).
