What is the difference between genotype and phenotype?
The genotype is the genetic make-up of an organism — the actual alleles it carries. The phenotype is the set of observable characteristics that result, such as height, flower colour or blood group.
Can two organisms with the same phenotype have different genotypes?
Yes. With a dominant allele, both TT and Tt produce the same tall phenotype, because one copy of the dominant allele is enough to show the trait. Only tt gives the short phenotype.
Does the environment affect the phenotype?
Yes. The genotype sets what is possible, but conditions such as nutrition, light and temperature influence what actually appears. Two plants with identical genotypes can differ in height if one is better nourished.
