Cell Division (Mitosis) — Step by Step
- The cell first COPIES its DNA, so it now has two identical sets of chromosomes.
- The copied chromosomes LINE UP in the middle, then are pulled to opposite ends of the cell.
- The cell pinches in the middle and splits into TWO identical daughter cells — each with a full set of chromosomes.

- Mitosis produces two genetically identical daughter cells from one parent cell.
- It is used for growth, repair and replacing worn-out cells.
- The chromosome number stays the same in the daughter cells (e.g. 46 → 46 in humans).
