How We Hear (Sound) — Step by Step

  1. A vibrating object (like a bell) makes the air vibrate, creating SOUND WAVES that travel out in all directions.
  2. The waves reach your EAR and make the EARDRUM vibrate. Tiny bones pass the vibration deeper inside.
  3. The vibrations reach the snail-shaped COCHLEA, which turns them into nerve signals. The brain reads these as SOUND.
