Metals are elements that generally have a shiny appearance, are malleable, ductile, and are good conductors of heat and electricity. They are solid at room temperature (except mercury). Examples: Copper (Cu), Iron (Fe) Non-metals are elements that are generally dull in appearance, brittle, and are poor conductors of heat and electricity. They can exist in solid, liquid, or gaseous states at room temperature. Examples: Oxygen (O2), Sulfur (S)
