Why does the left ventricle have thicker walls than the right ventricle?

The left ventricle pumps blood to the entire body through the aorta, requiring much higher pressure and force. The right ventricle pumps blood only to the lungs (nearby and less resistance), requiring less force. Thicker muscle in the left ventricle generates the higher pressure needed.

What causes a heartbeat sound?

The heartbeat sound (lub-dub) is caused by closure of heart valves. The first sound (lub) is caused by closing of tricuspid and mitral valves at the start of ventricular contraction. The second sound (dub) is caused by closing of aortic and pulmonary valves at the end of ventricular contraction.

Why is regular exercise good for the heart?

Exercise increases heart rate and cardiac output, strengthening the heart muscle (myocardium). Regular exercise improves cardiovascular efficiency, lowers resting heart rate, reduces blood pressure, and improves overall circulation and oxygen delivery to tissues.
