Why do heater coils become hot while wires connecting them stay cool?

Heater coils have much higher resistance than connecting wires. Since heat produced is I squared times R, the high resistance in the coil generates much more heat than the low resistance in the wires, even though the same current flows through both.

What happens if a circuit has zero resistance?

If resistance approaches zero, current would become infinite according to I = V divided by R. This is a short circuit, which is dangerous and can damage equipment or cause fire. This is why circuits have fuses or circuit breakers.

Why is it important to match voltage ratings when buying electrical appliances?

Using a higher voltage than rated causes excessive current and heat, damaging the appliance and creating fire hazard. Using lower voltage causes insufficient power and poor performance. Appliances must match the mains supply voltage, which is 230 Volts in India.
