How a Bill Becomes a Law in India

Think "I-L-R-P-A": Introduced → Lok Sabha → Rajya Sabha → President → Act. A bill must pass BOTH Houses before it can become law.

🌏 In real life

The Right to Education (RTE) Act, which made free schooling a right for children aged 6–14, travelled exactly this path — debated and passed by both Houses of Parliament, then signed by the President.

📝 Quick notes

  • A BILL is a proposed law. Most bills are introduced by a minister (a Government Bill).
  • The bill is debated and voted on in the LOK SABHA (readings + committee stage).
  • If passed, it goes to the RAJYA SABHA, where it is again debated and voted on.
  • After BOTH Houses pass it, the bill goes to the PRESIDENT for assent (signature).

🎯 Test yourself
