Plant Tissues
- Meristematic tissue: undifferentiated, located at tips of roots and shoots
- Permanent tissue: differentiated for specific functions
- Simple tissue: made of one type of cell (parenchyma, collenchyma, sclerenchyma)
- Complex tissue: made of multiple types (xylem, phloem)
Xylem and Phloem
- Xylem: transports water and minerals from roots to shoots (dead cells)
- Phloem: transports sugars and organic compounds from leaves (living cells)
- Xylem has vessels and tracheids
- Phloem has sieve tubes and companion cells
Animal Tissues
- Epithelial tissue: covers body surface and lines organs
- Connective tissue: supports and binds other tissues (bone, cartilage, blood)
- Muscle tissue: enables movement (skeletal, cardiac, smooth)
- Nervous tissue: transmits electrical signals (neurons)
Animal Cell Tissues
- Bone: rigid connective tissue providing structure and support
- Cartilage: flexible connective tissue in joints and ears
