NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture): NATA is the national entrance exam for admission to the five-year Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) programme at architecture colleges across India. Conducted by the Council of Architecture, it measures aptitude for architecture through drawing, visual composition, logical reasoning and general aptitude — not just Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Class 12 students with Mathematics are eligible, and admission is based on the NATA score.

Subjects Covered in NATA
Drawing & Sketching · Visual Composition · 3D Composition · Logical Reasoning · General Aptitude · Mathematics · Colour Theory · Architectural Awareness
How to Prepare for NATA
- Practise freehand drawing and 3D composition daily — the drawing section rewards proportion, perspective and neatness that only come with regular sketching.
- Build architectural awareness: observe buildings, famous architects and structures, since general-aptitude questions often draw on them.
- There is no negative marking, so attempt every question — make your best judgement even when unsure.
- Balance both parts: strong drawing skills alone are not enough; practise the MCQ, reasoning and numerical sections too.
NATA — Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need Physics, Chemistry and Maths for NATA?
You need Mathematics in Class 12 to be eligible for B.Arch. NATA itself tests aptitude, drawing and reasoning rather than the full PCM syllabus, so drawing and observation skills matter a lot.
Is there negative marking in NATA?
No. There is no negative marking, so you should attempt all questions, including the drawing and numerical-answer parts.
What is the difference between NATA and JEE Main Paper 2?
Both are used for B.Arch admission. NATA is conducted by the Council of Architecture and accepted by many colleges; JEE Main Paper 2 (B.Arch) is conducted by NTA and required by NITs and some other institutes. Many aspirants take both.
How important is drawing in NATA?
Very important. A significant part of NATA assesses drawing, composition and 3D visualisation, so consistent sketching practice is one of the best ways to raise your score.
