How to Prepare for JEE Main
- Master the NCERT textbooks thoroughly — 70% of JEE Main questions come from NCERT. Read theory, solve examples, and practice end-of-chapter questions.
- Create a formula sheet and revision notes for all chapters. Update it as you learn new concepts; it becomes invaluable during the final 30 days of revision.
- Practice at least 20 full mock tests under real exam conditions (no breaks, 3 hours, no reference materials). Analyze your performance after each test.
- Balance accuracy and speed: aim for 70% accuracy initially, then push for 85%+. Never sacrifice accuracy for speed — wrong answers cost marks.
JEE Main Result, Cutoff & Counselling
How to check the result: Once the JEE Main result is declared, log in to the official conducting body's website with your application number and password / date of birth, then download your scorecard or rank card.
Understanding the cutoff: The JEE Main cutoff is the minimum rank or score needed to get a seat. It changes every year with the number of candidates, the paper's difficulty and the seats available, and it differs by category (General / OBC / SC / ST / EWS) and quota — so always check the latest official cutoff.
Counselling & admission: Admission is through JoSAA (josaa.nic.in) for NITs, IIITs and CFTIs, followed by CSAB special rounds. You register, fill your college and branch choices by rank, and report for document verification and seat confirmation.
JEE Main — Frequently Asked Questions
Is JEE Main sufficient for engineering college admission in India?
JEE Main scores are used for admission to NITs, IIITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs). For IITs, you must also qualify JEE Advanced. Many private engineering colleges also accept JEE Main scores.
How many times can I attempt JEE Main in a year?
JEE Main is conducted twice a year (January and April sessions). You can attempt it up to 5 times in consecutive years.
What is the difficulty level of JEE Main?
JEE Main is moderately difficult. The questions test conceptual understanding and application rather than just memorization. With 6–8 months of focused preparation, any 12th pass student can crack it.
Should I join a coaching center for JEE Main?
Not mandatory. Many students crack JEE Main through self-study with good books and online resources. However, coaching provides structured guidance, doubt-clearing, and motivation.
