JEE Advanced (Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced)): JEE Advanced, conducted by the IITs, is India's most selective engineering entrance exam and the sole gateway to admission in all 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Only the top ~2.5 lakh JEE Main qualifiers are eligible to appear. It tests advanced problem-solving and conceptual depth in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics across two compulsory papers held on the same day.

How to Prepare for JEE Advanced

  1. Solve the last 10–15 years of JEE Advanced papers — the exam rewards depth and multi-step reasoning, so practising real past problems is far more useful than solving many easy questions.
  2. Build unshakeable fundamentals in Calculus and Coordinate Geometry (Maths), Electrostatics and Modern Physics (Physics), and Organic mechanisms and Electrochemistry (Chemistry) — these carry consistent weight.
  3. Master the marking scheme: multiple-correct questions are high-risk (a single wrong option can cost marks), so only mark options you are sure of, and use numerical questions (no negative marking in most years) to protect your score.

JEE Advanced — Frequently Asked Questions

Can I appear for JEE Advanced without qualifying JEE Main?

No. JEE Advanced is only for the top ~2.5 lakh JEE Main qualifiers, and both must be attempted in the same year. JEE Main is the screening exam; JEE Advanced is the final gateway to the IITs.

How many times can I attempt JEE Advanced?

You can attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times in two consecutive years, provided you qualify JEE Main each time. Always check the latest eligibility on the official site.

Is JEE Advanced much harder than JEE Main?

Yes. JEE Advanced questions are multi-concept and application-heavy, testing deeper understanding, while JEE Main is more direct and formula-based. Strong Main preparation is necessary but not sufficient for Advanced.

📌 Exam patterns and dates can change — always verify the latest details on the official website before applying.
