Essay on Cleanliness and Swachh Bharat Mission

Cleanliness means keeping our bodies, homes, schools, and surroundings clean and hygienic. Mahatma Gandhi said, 'Cleanliness is next to godliness.' This shows how important cleanliness is in Indian culture and health.

The Indian government launched the Swachh Bharat Mission in 2014 to build toilets, manage waste, and promote cleanliness. This mission has brought huge change. Millions of toilets were built in villages, and open defecation has reduced significantly. The mission also promotes waste management and keeps public spaces clean. Cities like Indore have become models for cleanliness in India.

Cleanliness starts from personal hygiene. We should wash our hands before eating and after using the toilet. We should bathe daily and keep our nails short. We should brush our teeth twice a day and wear clean clothes. Good personal hygiene prevents diseases like diarrhea, typhoid, and hepatitis which are common in India.

Cleanliness is also a community responsibility. We should not throw garbage in public places. We should use dustbins and segregate wet and dry waste. We should participate in cleanliness drives in our schools and neighborhoods. Our homes should be clean with good ventilation. Schools should have clean toilets and drinking water. Public spaces like parks and roads should be maintained properly.

When we keep our surroundings clean, diseases reduce and people become healthier. Children attending clean schools perform better in studies. Clean cities attract tourism and business. A clean India is a strong and prosperous India. Every citizen must contribute to the Swachh Bharat Mission.
