Robotics Ir Sensor in Robotics
IR (Infrared) sensors detect light in the infrared spectrum. A transmitter LED emits IR light; a receiver detects reflections. Range: typically 2–30 cm, much shorter than ultrasonic.
IR sensors are fast (no travel time to measure), consume minimal power, and are cheap. Drawback: affected by ambient light and reflectivity of objects.
Two types: analog (voltage increases with proximity) and digital (binary detect/not-detect). Analog versions are more flexible.
