Git Amend in Git & GitHub

git commit --amend modifies the last commit without creating a new one. Use it to fix commit messages, add forgotten files, or improve the last commit. Only use on local commits (before pushing).

Instead of making a new commit for a typo fix, you can amend the last commit. It rewrites history but is useful for polish.

Priya commits with a typo in the message: "Add homepge design". Instead of another commit, she uses `--amend` to fix it to "Add homepage design".

Git Amend — Syntax

git commit --amend -m "New message" # Rewrite commit message
git add file.txt && git commit --amend # Add file to last commit
