Cyber Zero Day in Cyber Security

A zero-day vulnerability is a previously unknown security flaw that vendors haven't patched yet. Attackers can exploit these flaws without any public defenses available.

Zero-day exploits are valuable on dark markets—security researchers sell them to vendors, while criminal hackers sell them to other criminals. Some governments use them for espionage.

Prevention is impossible (by definition, the flaw is unknown), but detection is possible through behavior monitoring and anomaly detection. Organizations should assume they'll be targeted and implement defense-in-depth.

Responsible disclosure means reporting zero-days to vendors before public release. Vendors have time to develop patches while exploits remain hidden. Researchers who practice responsible disclosure are praised.
