Cyber Firewall in Cyber Security

A firewall is a network security system that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules, acting as a barrier between trusted and untrusted networks.

Firewalls work at multiple layers: Network firewalls protect entire networks, host-based firewalls protect individual devices, and application firewalls analyze application-level traffic.

Firewalls can block traffic based on IP addresses, ports, protocols, and application signatures. They provide both inbound protection (blocking attacks) and outbound protection (preventing data exfiltration).

Modern firewalls include stateful inspection (tracking connection states), intrusion detection, and VPN capabilities. Most devices include a basic firewall, but larger organizations need more sophisticated solutions.
