Ai Types in AI & ML
AI is classified into three types based on capability. Understanding these helps you know what current AI can and cannot do — and what the future holds.
Narrow AI (Weak AI): AI designed for one specific task. This is ALL the AI that exists today. ChatGPT is Narrow AI — it can converse brilliantly but can't drive a car. Google Maps is Narrow AI — it routes perfectly but can't write a poem. Every AI product you use today is Narrow AI.
General AI (AGI): An AI that can do anything a human can do — switch between tasks, reason, learn, create, and adapt. AGI does not exist yet. Researchers debate whether it will arrive in 5 years or 50 years. This is the holy grail of AI research.
Super AI (ASI): An AI that surpasses human intelligence in every domain. This is purely theoretical and doesn't exist. Scientists like Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk warned about the risks of Super AI — which is why AI Safety is a growing field.
