AI is advancing faster than any technology in history. In 2012, AI could barely recognise images. In 2024, AI can write code, pass medical exams, generate photorealistic videos, and beat humans at virtually every game. What's coming next?
AGI (Artificial General Intelligence): The holy grail — an AI that can do anything a human can do. Some researchers (including Demis Hassabis of Google DeepMind, and OpenAI's Sam Altman) believe AGI could arrive within 5–10 years. Others say it's decades away.
Multimodal AI: Current frontier AIs (GPT-4o, Gemini Ultra, Claude) can already process text + images + audio together. By 2030, AI will seamlessly handle text, images, video, audio, and real-world sensors together.
AI Agents: Instead of answering questions, future AI will take actions — browsing the web, writing and running code, booking appointments, managing files — autonomously completing complex multi-step tasks. OpenAI's Operator, Google's Project Mariner, and Anthropic's Claude Computer Use are early examples.
