❓ Quick answer

What is a magnetic field?

A magnetic field is the region around a magnet or a current-carrying conductor where a magnetic force can be detected. It is a vector quantity, having both magnitude and direction.

❓ Quick answer

What are magnetic field lines?

Magnetic field lines are imaginary curved lines used to represent a magnetic field. Outside a magnet they run from the north pole to the south pole, and their direction at any point is the direction a compass north pole would point.

❓ Quick answer

Why do two magnetic field lines never intersect?

If two field lines crossed, a compass placed at that point would have to point in two different directions at once, which is impossible. So magnetic field lines never intersect.
